Gardens Of The World Site
On September 30, 2002 I checked my daylilies to find one of the new arrivals from Florida showing signs of daylily rust. The daylily was isolated [see pictures below] and did not infected even the daylilies next to it in the same bed. The frigid winters in North Ohio is good news for Willow Brook Acres daylilies. Ohio State University has said their studies show daylily rust disease is controlled and even eliminated by very cold winters. While their findings are not conclusive, so far it is good news for Ohio growers.
As a preventative measure, Willow Brook Acres maintains a spray routine of alternating recommended systemic and contact fungicide sprays to prevent rust from infecting our daylilies.

RUST
Rust looks like pollen or powder on the underside of the daylily leaf.
It sometimes looks similar to other conditions that develop on daylilies except when wiped with a tissue, rust powder will stain orange or yellow.
